After a few weeks off due to a rain out at Sunset Speedway, the Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers were back in action this past Saturday. It was race #3 up next at Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, Ontario as part of the APC United Late Model Series event.
After all of the drivers and teams dialed in their cars during the allotted two practice sessions, heat races got underway to kick off the event. Heat 1 sponsored by HMCW Chassis got underway with the #81 of Cassidy March and #83 of Brody Rickwood leading the field to green. The heat race went caution free with Rickwood leading half the race until the #11 car of David Miller blistered into the lead and took the checkered flag. Heat 2 saw the #42 car of Daniel Hawn and the #6 car of Craig Pitchell on the front row. Hawn fled to the lead off the start and never looked back with another caution free heat race. Daniel would take the HMCW Chassis checkered flag.
The Qwick Wick TQ midget teams would have a big break in between their heat races and feature to make any adjustments as the APC series and super stock divisions had group qualifying. The 14 car field completed their 4 wide salute to the great crowd on hand and scuffed their tires to get ready for the 25 lap A-main event. March and Hawn led the field to the green flag. Chaos broke out on lap 1 with a chain reaction down the backstretch with the #55 of Cory Whittam staying off the wall leading Rickwood going over the back wheel of Pitchell. The #7 car of Jeff Blackburn broke the front axle sending him spinning and ending his race. The full restart saw Hawn power to the lead with Whittam in tow. Caution flew with the #53 of Roberto Polillo spinning in turn 3. The field went back to green with Hawn in the lead. A few green flag laps ran before the #29 of Paul Harrison making his first start of the 2022 season, spun coming out of turn 2. The restart had Daniel Hawn and Whittam battling side by side for the lead. Cory powered around the outside with 9 laps to go to claim the lead. Caution flew again for the 53 car of Polillo spinning going into turn 3. What we thought would be the last restart of the race, the #81 of March spun coming out of turn 4 with 2 laps to go. The field took the green flag for a green, white, checkered finish. It was Cory Whittam prevailing over Daniel Hawn and David Miller. James Stabley in the #57 car and Andrew Whelan in the #5 rounded out your top 5.
Final finishing order: 55, 42, 11, 57, 5, 13, 6, 44, 83, 29, 53, 46, 81, 7
