The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers were all set to roll at Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, Ontario this past Saturday night. They had to wait just another day as mother nature won again on Saturday, postponing the race until Sunday. Flamboro and APC made the decision early to wait another day to race.
Sunday rolled around where 14 TQ midget teams came to the pits for a great day of racing. Heat races were full of action and some heartbreaks all at the same time. Mike Westwood in the #91 car broke a driveshaft related part ending his night with no extra parts. The #15 of Bob Bailey took a roll over in turn #1. Bailey was able to continue for the feature with minimal damage and a wing borrowed from the Hawn Motorsports crew. Former champion, Lucas Smith, made a return to the series in the #18 car owned by Adam Stasila. His night ended in the heat race as the throttle stuck going into turn #3 causing heavy damage. The #55 car of Cory Whittam took HMCW Chassis heat race #1 with the #42 car of Daniel Hawn taking heat race #2.
We did, unfortunately, lose a few cars from heat races with damage. The 25-lap feature event saw an 11 car field take to the track. Just before coming to the green flag, the #49 of Dominique Smith pulled off into the pits with a problem and ending her night before it even got started. The #11 car of David Miller and James Stanley in the #57 car started on the front row. Side by side for the first three rows saw some close, clean racing. Stanley jumped out front on lap 3. Miller was on the inside line fending off the hard chargers with some issues. Stanley started to extend his lead with Whittam and Hawn in tow trying to catch him. Whittam in defense mode to hold Hawn off, had a tight car in the middle of the race. Close call with the two off of turn #4 with Whittam bouncing off the wall and almost taking Hawn and Jeff Blackburn (7) with him. The race went green to checkered with Stanley never looking back and claiming his first checkered flag of the 2023 season. Hawn claimed second from the ill-handling car of Whittam with Whittam finishing out the podium finishers. Blackburn and Jr Farrelly (72) rounded out your top 5. Jaden Riddell (13), Miller, Andrew Whelan (5), Paul Jorgensen (68), Bailey, Sherry Hogan (74x), and Smith rounded out the finishing order.
