The Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers had their first double header weekend of the 2026 season out at Sauble Speedway in Hepworth, Ontario this past Saturday and Sunday. The summer weather is here and very hot temperatures were a factor for everyone.
With some front runners away due to personal vacations and other series, there was a chance for someone to shine and gain in the points standings this weekend. Night #1 saw Jeff Blackburn (7) and James Stanley (57) take the heat race wins. The first Dash for Cash race was set to go. 4 cars doing battle for 4 laps…all for some cold, hard cash. The race, presented by BW Towing of Orangeville was won by Mike Westwood (91). 25-lap feature saw teammates Westwood and Sherri Hogan (74x) on the front row, leading the field to green. Chaos at the start, with Dominique Smith (49), Adam Racine (05) and Richard Woodland (84) coming together on lap 1. The #84 car broke the front axle ending their night with the 49 and 05 able to continue on. Andrew Whelan (5) had overheating issues with the rad cap blowing off with the driver having some burns from the hot coolant/water in the system, but he is ok. Stanley started about mid pack and had some passes ahead of him before taking the checkered flag in the feature. Blackburn and Jaden Riddell (15) finished on the podium.
With Stanley’s win, this claims the lead on top of the championship standings for the first time in his TQ Midget career. Reigning and defending champion Daniel Hawn (42) made his way for night #2 at Sauble Speedway after getting his feet wet in a Hot Rod at Delaware Speedway, adding him to the mix for Sunday’s race. Hawn not wasting any time, winning heat race 1 while Racine took heat race 2 (both of which were green to checkered races). Another Dash for Cash race was on the schedule for night 2 with BW Towing out of Orangeville supporting this 4 lap, 4 car race again. Before the green flag, Alex Connell (96) stopped on the track and had to be towed off with an issue. This led to a three car dash for cash with the new point leader having a bad heat race, took the win and the cash at the end of the 4 laps. Westwood and Smith brought the field to the green flag. Chaos on lap 1 on night 2 as well, with a 3 wide attempt caught Blackburn, Smith, and Hogan spinning with Smith hitting the wall. After a visit to the pits, all were able to continue. Woodland in the #84 car pulled off on lap 4 after some issues from the axle repair from the night before. Hogan pulled off on lap 5 with some preceding damage from the lap 1 incident, ending her night. After struggling all day and starting near the rear of the field, Stanley was able to cut his way through the field to sweep the weekend by taking the checkered flag on night 2. Racine and Hawn finished on the podium places.
After a great weekend, we had an announcement that our race next Saturday, July 4th that was to take place at Grand Bend Speedway for our first visit of the 2026 season, has been cancelled by the track and we will not make up the date. The next race for the Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers is set for July 25th at Flamboro Speedway.
