The Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers rolled into Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ontario for their second visit of the 2025 season. With the first race scheduled at Sunset rained out, this was the second time around the 1/3 mile oval with Daniel Hawn (42) winning at his home track. Round #13 was up next. All the drivers on hand came in wanting the win, with the most recent news of Sunset Speedway closing down after the 2025 season and after over 50 years of racing every Saturday night.
14 cars came out to do battle for one last time at Sunset Speedway. Darren McLennan in the #78 car took the win in heat race 1 with home town driver and point leader, Daniel Hawn in the #42 car taking heat race 2. Rookie driver Alex Connell in the #96 car takes his first checkered flag with the TQ Midgets. Connell won the Dash for Cash race sponsored by Larry’s Small Engines of Orangeville. Alex took the checkered flag and some cash home, all thank you to Larry for his support!
A long wait in between the preliminary races to the feature race due to other divisions and order of the final races. Crews had lots of time to make changes to their cars. Fourteen cars went out on track for the A-main feature race. Four wide salute for one last time to the Sunset Speedway fans before they turned loose. Heat race winners and championship runners had to come from mid to deep in the field if they wanted to win this one. At a track that is famous for three to four wide racing when it comes to these Can-Am Midgets, joggling for position did not come easy. The streak of the HMCW Chassis prepared cars continued as James Stanley in the #57 car claimed his third feature victory in a row with Darren McLennan (78) and Daniel Hawn (42) on the podium.
Jaden Riddell (13), Tyler Cullen (43), Paul Jorgensen (68), Adam Racine (05), Adrian Stahle (24), Sherri Hogan (74x), Roberto Polillo Jr (53), Larry Lawson (75), Alex Connell (96), Dominique Smith (49), Richard Woodland (84) rounded out the finishing order.
2 races left of the 2025 season with Flamboro Speedway set for this coming Saturday for the second to last round. Race day schedule to be released.
