The Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers were back in action this past Saturday night. Round #2 was on tap when the cars and teams rolled into Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, Ontario. Defending champion, Daniel Hawn (42) won the first race of the season just a few weeks ago, also held at Flamboro Speedway.
The teams got dialed in during practice and were ready to race as the TQ Midgets were the only other support series for the APC United Late Model Series live on Racing America. James Stanley (57) took the victory in heat race 1, continuing his momentum from his win over the off season down in Florida. Jeff Blackburn (7) took heat race 2 after starting from the back and charging through the field.
Very quick turn around time for the feature being the only support series of the evening. The only thing in between the heats and the feature was qualifying for the APC Late Models. Adam Racine (05) and Stanley started on the front row and led the field to the green flag. Some of the early front runners in the championship standings had to fight their way through the field, through traffic to make it from the rear of the field to the front. Caution flew on lap 3 with Andrew Whelan (5) blowing a water line and kissing the wall. Whelan was making his return to driving in the TQ Midgets after a brief spell away. Caution flew for the spinning cars of Blackburn and Dominique Smith (49). Both were racing very hard for position. Weekly front runner Darren McLennan (78) had an oil leak on lap 14 restart and eventually blowing the rad cap off ending his night collecting the #91 car of Mike Westwood who spun in some oil from the crippled machine of McLennan. Stanley claimed the checkered flag with Hawn finishing second. Blackburn made his way back up through the field finishing on the podium.
Jaden Riddel (15), Adam Racine (05), Tyler Cullen (43), Dominique Smith (49), Jody Bound (24), Sheri Hogan (74x), Alex Connell (96), Darren McLennan (78), Mike Westwood (91), and Andrew Whelan (5) finished the running order.
The Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers have a few weeks off before returning for Round #3 at Peterborough Speedway for their annual visit to “Canada’s Toughest 1/3 Mile Oval.”
