We were fighting the rain all weekend long. Saturday’s race was unfortunately rained out, but we fought the rain and had a beautiful night of racing on Sunday.
Racing started a little late with the rain delaying practice for all divisions. Heat #1 got underway with Luc Munsie (26) and David Miller (11) leading the field to green. It was Miller charging to the lead and had a hard charging field of Qwick Wick TQ Midgets right behind him. Miller held on to the lead into lap 6 until the #46 car of Bob Bailey spun in turn 3 bringing out the only caution flag of heat #1. The restart had Miller holding the lead until Jeff Blackburn (7) took the lead on lap #8 and never looking back, winning heat #1 over Cory Whittam (55), David Miller (11), Dominique Smith (49) and Luc Munsie (5).
Heat #2 got underway with Cassidy March (81) and Paul Harrison (29) leading the field to green. This heat had no caution flags with Darren Mclennan (2) in the Hawn Motorsports ride taking the lead on lap 3 from Harrison and charging the rest of the way to take the checkered flag in heat #2.
It was a quick turn around with the wild 25-lap feature just about 20 minutes apart from the heats. Our signature four wide salute to the amazing fans in attendance was complete and hot laps completed as well. It was Cassidy March (81) and Paul Harrison (29) leading the field to green with Harrison taking the lead before Dominque Smith (49) passing him on lap #4. Smith continued to lead the field at a blistering pace before Mclennan (2) and Harrison (29) came together in turn 4 on
lap #10. Both cars were just able to stop and continue on before hitting the outside wall. On the restart, the hard charging Cory Whittam (55) blew past Smith for a couple of laps before Jeff Blackburn (7) spun out in turn 2 collecting Harrison in the process on lap #12. Whittam was able to keep the lead on the restart with some close green flag racing until lap #21 saw Harrison spin out in turn 4. The restart didn’t last long with the scary wreck of the night happening on the backstretch with Blackburn and Harrison getting together, launching the #7 machine up the wall and Harrison flipping up the wall before sliding across the track to a stop. The red flag was quickly thrown to help the drivers and clean up. Luckily, both drivers were ok. The leader of Whittam ran out of gas and had to drop to the back of the field after refueling under caution. That inherited the lead to Dominque Smith on the restart. The last 2 laps were completed cleanly with Smith winning the wild 25-lap feature. Daniel Hawn (42), Cassidy March (81), Brody Rickwood (83) and Darren Mclennan (2) rounded out the top 5.
