The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers returned to action this past Saturday night after a few weeks off for a summer break. The TQ Midgets made their way up to Grand Bend, Ontario to visit Grand Bend Speedway and Festival Centre. This was the one and only visit to the tight track where many say this is a “drivers track.”

Heat race #1 got underway with Paul Jorgensen (68) and Mike Westwood (91) leading the field to green. Jorgensen took the lead early before caution flew on lap 2 with a part breaking on Westwood and sending him hard into the the turn 1 wall. The driver was okay. The restart saw some crazy moves with James Stanley (57) making it three wide for the lead. Stanley would claim the lead on that one. The action wasn’t done yet, with another three wide battle for second the very next corner. This had sent Jeff Blackburn (7) spinning and David Miller (11) stopping to avoid. Stanley would go on to win heat race #1.

Heat race #2 had Jaden Riddell (13) and Darren McLennan (78) on the front row. Side by side action between the top 2 cars for 5 straight laps was an amazing show for the fans, but also was able to get Cory Whittam (55) to catch up. Whittam was patient and was able to claim the lead and never look back to take the checkered flag in heat race #2 and visit Miller Office Trailers victory lane.

Westwood was able to make the feature race as he had a back up car with him as that team was testing out a new car. The feature race front row was made up of Jorgensen and Riddell. Riddell jumped out to the lead with the pack behind him waiting to pounce. McLennan had a strong start and was able to tail Riddell until passing for the lead coming up to lap 3. First caution came out on lap 4 for a spin by your heat race 2 winner, Cory Whittam. McLennan was able to not only keep the lead on the restart, but check out on his fellow competitors as they did battle. The rest of the race went green to checkered with McLennan claiming his third victory of the 2024 season. Daniel Hawn (42) was catching the #78 towards the end, but ends up second with Blackburn joining them on the podium. Whittam rallied back up to fourth with Riddell rounding out the top 5.

The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets have a quick turn around, with a double header weekend set for Sauble Speedway both Saturday and Sunday. Information on race times, schedules, etc will be posted soon.
