The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers rolled into Sauble Speedway in Hepworth, Ontario for their first double header weekend of the season. Weather was in the area Saturday, but both shows were able to go on with no issues.

There were 11 cars on hand for the first night. The strong point leaders continue their strides in 2024 with the #7 car of Jeff Blackburn

winning heat race #1 and Daniel Hawn (42) winning heat race #2. We love when our sponsors get involved in our racing throughout the season. Larry Wilson from Larry’s Small Engines of Orangeville put up some cold hard cash for a Dash for Cash on night #1. Rookie contender Tyler Cullen in the #43 car took the checkered flag and won that cash. Thank you to Larry for his support!

The 25-lap feature event was up next. Mike Westwood (91) stormed out to the lead early. With the field nose to tail, it was Westwood who they were chasing. Darren McLennan (78) waited for his chance, which came on lap 12 when he was able to pass Westwood for the lead. The race went green flag to checkered flag. Westwood was able to stay in 2nd until he wasn’t able to navigate through lap traffic and Hawn was able to claim that spot. McLennan took the checkered flag and visited Miller Office Trailers victory lane with Hawn and Westwood on the podium with him. James Stanley (57), Jeff Blackburn (7), Jaden Riddell (13), Sherri Hogan (74), Jody Bound (24), Tyler Cullen (43), Richard Woodland (84), and Larry Lawson (08) rounding out the finishing order.

Night #2 brought 12 cars to the track with Paul Jorgensen (68) joining on the Sunday. The HMCW Chassis cars are strong this season with Stanley taking heat race #1 and Hawn claiming victory in heat race #2. After the 4 wide salute to the fans to thank them for their support all weekend, the green flag was waved with Bound and Westwood side by side. Westwood claimed the lead continuing his strong showing all weekend. The lone caution of the race and also weekend, was on lap 9 for a single car spin from the #68 car. Westwood would pace the field on the restart until lap 15 when Stanley took over the top spot. Hard, close battle between Hawn and Westwood for second place where eventually, Hawn would claim 2nd and Westwood would finish 3rd. Stanley blistered to the checkered flag to take his second win of the season. Blackburn (7), McLennan (78), Riddell (13), Jorgensen (68), Bound (24), Hogan (74), Cullen (43), Woodland (84), Lawson (08) rounded out the field.

We would like to thank everyone at Sauble Speedway for their hospitality. We will see you in a few weeks for our second double header weekend. The TQ Midgets finish out their long stretch of races this Saturday at Sunset Speedway.
