The Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers were on deck for Round #4 of the 2025 race season. This past Saturday, 15 cars made their way to Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ontario. This was the second attempt of the year, with the first race (round #2 on the schedule) raining out with mother nature making her way through Simcoe County. The TQ Midgets were one of many divisions part of and in support of the Allan Lankin Cup…the biggest mini stock race of the season and the biggest mini stock race in Ontario.
With an early race start, heat races were up first. Championship contenders claimed the top spots with Darren McLennan in the #78 car taking heat race 1 and hometown boy, Daniel Hawn in the #42 car taking heat race 2. Some races this season has the Dash for Cash returning. Round #4 had this extra race on tap with four cars battling out for four laps. No points, just some crisp cash. James Stanley in the #57 car claimed victory and took home some extra cash with the support by Brian Woodland of BW Towing.
The feature race was set. With the Can-Am Midgets’ handicap system, championship leaders and heat race winners are mixed amongst the pack and having to start near the back of the field. In a recent interview with RaceTime Radio, Hawn explained Sunset Speedway as the “Daytona” type track for these TQ Midgets. Small cars, big track, and fast times. 13 second laps leads to some fast racing inside a very wide race track. This brought only one caution for the feature race for Mike Westwood in the #8 car. After the only caution, cars spread low and high to get through the field with Hawn taking the checkered flag. Parking it in victory lane and joining him on the podium was McLennan and Jeff Blackburn in the #7 car.
Next Saturday is round #5. Next race is a driver, and fan favourite. This coming Saturday is the one and only visit to Peterborough Speedway. Stay tuned for race schedule and updates. Join us in person to see some narrow, fast racing.
