We were delayed a day, but the rain didn’t stop the Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers from racing this past weekend.
The TQ Midgets rolled into Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, Ontario on Sunday for their 3rd race of the 2021 season. Joined by the mini stocks and supporting the APC United Late Model Series. Car count was great with 17 cars on hand ready to do battle.
Heat race #1 sponsored by HMCW (Hawn Motorsports Chassis Works), got underway with the #6 of Craig Pitchell and #83 of Brody Rickwood taking the field to green. It was Dominique Smith (49) taking the lead on lap 1 with Adam Racine (13) making his return to the TQ Midgets in his old car right on her tail. Racine made his move on lap 4 taking the lead from Smith and never looking back. Heat 1 was caution free with Racine, Smith, Rickwood, Cory Whittam (55) and Pitchell rounding out the top 5.
Heat race #2 sponsored by HMCW had Luc Munsie (26) and Paul Harrison (29) starting on the front row with Harrison taking the early lead until the hard charging TQ of Daniel Hawn (42) passing Harrison on lap #4. There was a hard battle up front between Hawn and Harrison with Jeff Blackburn (7) and Darren Mclennan (2) lingering behind them waiting for a mistake. That mistake came on lap #6 with Hawn getting loose on the throttle and got sideways collecting Harrison, Blackburn, and Mclennan in the mix causing a caution. Restart came on lap 7 with Hawn and Munsie. Hawn pulled away and won his heat over Blackburn, Mclennan, Munsie and Bob Bailey.
The drivers and their crew had VERY little time to make adjustments and get some liquids into them as the APC series B-main did not happen. The 25-lap feature sponsored by long time Can-Am Midget club supporter, Flamboro Machine Shop. Brody Rickwood (83) and David Miller (11) led the field of 16 cars to the green flag. Rickwood led a blistering pace for half the race under green flag conditions to lap 12 as the caution came out for the #46 of Bob Bailey for a single carĀ spin. Restart came with Daniel Hawn all over Rickwood taking the lead on lap 14. Clean and green until 2 laps to go when 9th place car #29 Paul Harrison had a single car spin in turn 2. The field would take the green with 2 laps to go with Hawn staying put in position 1 and taking the checkered flag for the second race in a row. Rickwood, Racine, Blackburn, and Smith round out your top 5.
