The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers were back in action this past weekend at Sauble Speedway in Hepworth, Ontario. This was the second and final double-header weekend of the 2023 season. Saturday night brought us as part of the APC United Late Model Series along with the Legend Cars.
Heat races took place before the track went live on GForceTV. Cory Whittam in the #55 car took HMCW Chassis heat race #1 while Andrew Whelan in the #5 car motored to heat race #2 victory.
After the cameras were rolling, and the APC Series finished out their single car qualifying session, the TQ Midgets were first up for their feature event. The #72 of Jr Farelly, who was running triple duty in the TQ Midgets, APC Series, and the Legend Cars, started on pole alongside David Miller (11). Farrelly powered through turn 1 and took the lead from Miller. Caution flag flew for the #91 car of Bailey Brown going for a spin by herself down the backstretch. Restart had Farrelly in the lead with the heavy hitters coming from the back of the field. Dominique Smith (49) making her return and looking strong, claimed the lead and pulled away from Farrelly. Bringing Daniel Hawn (42) and Whittam with her, she was the target for the lead. Holding off the two, Hawn was able to take the lead on lap 18. The rest of the race would go green and Hawn would take the checkered flag. Whittam and Smith joined him on the podium. Farrelly, and Whelan rounded out the top 5. Jeff Blackburn (7), James Stanley (57), Jody Bound (05), Jaden Riddell (13), Sherri Hogan (74x), Bob Bailey (15), Mike Westwood (48), Miller, and Brown rounded out the finishing order.
The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets spent the night in Sauble with a second race set for Sunday. Teams rolled in and got their cars dialed in practice sessions. Opening ceremonies got underway with heat races up next. Smith and Farrelly took checkered flags to claim victory in their respective HMCW Chassis heat races. All divisions got their heat races in, but unfortunately, that was the only racing to happen, as Mother Nature came and the rest of the night was cancelled
The Can-Am Midget are back in action on August 19th up at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ontario.
