The Qwick Wick Can-Am Midgets presented by Miller Office Trailers rolled into Sauble Speedway in Hepworth, Ontario with a double header weekend on the schedule. The TQ midgets were again supporting the APC United Late Model Series along with the legend cars.
Practice sessions were over with the drivers and crews getting their cars dialed in for the upcoming heat races. The heat races were brought to you by HMCW Chassis. Thank you to Daniel Hawn for his continued support to our heat race winners! Heat race #1 went to the #7 car of Jeff Blackburn with Dominique Smith in the #49 car taking the win in heat race #2, finally getting her engine issues figured out.
It was a quick turn around with only the legend cars and APC group qualifying in between. The 16 car field scuffed and warmed up their tires on pace laps. With a 4-wide salute to the absolutely amazing, packed crowd in the grandstands. The green flag flew for the 25-lap feature event with Paul Harrison (29) and Jody Bound (05) on the front row. It was Harrison to the lead. Three wide battle behind him with Bound, Smith, and David Miller (11). Dom powered through and took the lead from Harrison on lap 4 before the first caution flew for Miller spinning Bound in turn 1. Blackburn had spun to avoid contact. Officials saw this as Jeff was able to get his spot back. Smith took the lead on the restart from Harrison with Cory Whittam (55) up into second place. Cory was right on her tail tank trying everything to make a move for the lead. It was now a 4 car battle for the lead with Blackburn and Daniel Hawn (42) joining the fun. Whittam was able to inherit the lead on lap 10. Andrew Whelan (5) brought out the second caution of the race for an innocent spin on his own in turn 4. The restart saw Whittam and Smith on the front row. Caution flew quick though with Hawn spinning out of turn 2 when he went wheel to wheel with Smith. The restart saw the top 4 nose to tail for a bunch of green flag laps. Whittam held the lead before caution flew yet again for the stopped 44 car of Mike Coleman on the backstretch with a driveshaft issue. The restart saw a hard fought battle for the lead with Blackburn taking the lead with just 5 laps to go. Caution flew on the last lap for the spinning car of Miller in turn 4, but the race was official. Blackburn took the checkered flag over Whittam and Jr Farrelly after Farrelly started shotgun on the field in 16th.
Harrison, and Smith rounded out the top 5. James Stanley (57), Brody Rickwood (83), Jody Bound (05), Andrew Whelan (5), Daniel Hawn (42), Cassidy March (81), Bob Bailey (46), Brian Woodland (48), Bailey Brown (91), David Miller (11), and Mike Coleman (44) is your finishing order.
