Race Recap - June 9th, 2007
LUCAS OIL CAN AM TQ MIDGETS LUCAS SMITH TAKES CHECKERED FLAG AT FLAMBORO Capturing the lead on lap 6, Lucas Smith held of a hard charging Dan May to take his 2nd win of the season at Flamboro Speedway June 9th. In the 3rd race of the season, the 2006 rookie of the year proved why he is a contender for the 2007 championship getting his 2nd win in 3 races. This race would see Randy May in the #23, Dan May in the #7, Curtis Freisen in the #68, Joel Freisen in the #52 and Adam Walsh in the newly built #49 take to the oval for the first time this year. A field of 25 cars showed up for the nights race which would mean one car would be going home on the trailer, once the first practice for the Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets was over it was clear that a blown engine in the #1, Roger Riberdy owned car, which was being piloted by Ted Bois for the night, would be the one to have an early end to the night. After the 4 wide salute to the fans Larry Wilson, in the #5, lead the full 24 car field to the green flag. Wilson lead for 4 circuits until Greg Smulders in the #00 grabbed the lead on lap 5. Smulders hung onto the lead for only one lap when Lucas Smith in the #94 took the lead, Lucas had started back in the 8th spot. Making his way through the field was Dan May in the #7 machine. May started back in the 10th spot and was coming on strong, another hard charger was Paul Smith in the #2 Dayglo yellow car and the always strong James Gray in the #82 machine. The feature race saw only 1 caution for a spin by Mike McCann coming out of corner 4. Fighting off May, Paul Smith and Gray, Lucas held on for his second win of the season. Rounding out the top 5 was May, Smith, Gray and Creswell in the #3 machine. With the win Lucas Smith now holds a 27 point lead over Sauble Beach winner Rob Neely.
