NEELY WINS AT “THE BEACH”

Rob Neely piloting the #74 Ken Lorenz machine took his 1^st feature win of 2007 Sunday night at Sauble Speedway. Rain cancelled the Saturday night show of the double header weekend.  The #74 of Neely took the lead of lap 20 and held on for the win.

As the green flag dropped, pole sitter James Gray in the #82 took the early lead with the #43 of Craig Mackereth and #3 Todd Cresswell in pursuit.  Mackereth with Cresswell close behind took the lead on lap 3 from Gray.  This saw the #74 of Neely and the #23 of Randy May go to 4^th and 5^th respectfully.  Through a few more circuits Mackereth continued to lead with last weeks winner, Lucas Smith in the #94, finding his way into the 5^th position.  Lap 10 saw the caution flag fly for a spin by Cresswell in turn 4.  The night saw its 2^nd caution when the #2 of Paul Smith, the #36 of Cliff Hodkinson and the #00 of Greg Smulders got tangled in turn 1.  The cars lined up for the restart, a restart which would see the rookie Alison McLeod in the #4 Walsh Racing machine start in the 10^th spot.   On the restart leader James Gray pulled away from the field leaving Neely and Lucas Smith battling for the 2^nd spot and Craig Mackereth was trying to hold off a fight from Randy May for the 4^th position.  Lap 2 saw another caution flag as the #5 car of Lorenz spun.  This closed the field back up for a 5 lap shoot out.  The restart would see rookie Alison McLeod in 4^th spot.  Before the green could wave the #82 of Gray and the #94 of Lucas Smith would be penalized for scuffing their tires ad were sent to the rear of the field.  This gave the lead to Neely.  Lap 22 saw a red flag condition as the #5 of Lorenz and the #12 of Balych would get together and crash hard into the wall.  Both drivers were unharmed.  Once cleaned up, the green flag waved for the final time and saw Neely hang on for the win with Craig Mackereth 2^nd, McLeod 3^rd, McLennan 4^th and Cresswell rounding out the top 5.  The Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets now have a bit of a break and will continue their 2007 campaign June 9^th at Flamboro Speedway.
