Race Recap - June 7th, 2003.

TQ Talk - By Dan Balych

Race # 4 found the Castrol TQ Midgets at the golden Horseshoe's best kept secret - Flamboro Speedway, a short drive from anywhere. A good  racing surface plus tight corners and long straightaways lend themselves to the Midgets. Jake the dog rules the pits.  I remember coming here 25 years ago when David was younger; now he races here - who would have thought?

Heat 1

Michael McCann #27, entered into the world of racing for the first time.  Keith Dempster ran Randy May's old car. On lap 1, James Treadwell #66, took the lead. On lap 4, Smith was leading when caution came out for debris off a car. After the restart, it was Smith #28, Treadwell, Dave McIntosh #90, who had started 8th, in third, Balych #12 in fifth and Dempster in sixth place. Although James Treadwell and Curtis Nichols had improved runs, nobody had anything for Smith.
FINISH: 28, 66, 90, 55, 12, 5, 43, 20, 69, 27

Heat 2

Randy May, after practicing in his new ride on Tuesday night, took the lead and looked over his shoulder the whole race because Colin Turnbull
#1 was glued to his bumper. Jeff Riberdy #6, came steadily through he pack starting last to finish 3rd, followed by Lorenz #74, who just barely got by Creswell #3.
FINISH: 23, 1, 6, 74, 3, 82, 49, 59, 14

B Main

Blair McCann took over the wheel of the 27 in the B Main from Michael, his son. It is going to take days to remove the smile from Michael's face!  As the green flag dropped Craig Mackereth #43, took the lead with Stefan Haas #20, last year's rookie driver, following and Chris Ralph #55 in close pursuit. Craig took off and Haas, with a new generation motor
opened up space between him and Ralph. Blair McCann kept Ralph busy right up to the finish but just missed by inches. Good runs for Chris
and Stefan.
FINISH: 43, 20, 59, 27, 69, 49

A Main

START:
66, 23, 28, 3, 55, 1, 12, 6, 74, 5, 82, 90, 43, 20, 59, 27, 69, 49, 14

Randy May was on the test tire this week and he had a heat win already under his belt. Lap 2 saw James Gray get sideways while the eye in the sky (race director Terry Watts) warned another driver again this week.  This new procedure seems to be working just fine.  Paul Smith started 3rd and chased May until Dave McIntosh #90 lost a power plant on Lap 6.  On the restart, #82 and #55 got together in turn 2 with #82 losing a wheel.  Both had to retire. Colin Turnbull went out with a fluid leak. The fog started rolling in and turns 1 and 2 were hard to see. At lap 12, Riberdy #6, who had started 8th, took the lead and ran away.  Stefan Haas got his first top ten finish. Paul Smith with a new motor drove to a second place finish; Dempster was third, Craig Mackereth fourth after starting 13th and Todd Cresswell was fifth after starting 10th. Uncle Harvey #49, driving for Adam Walsh in just his third race was eighth, having started 18th.

FINISH: 6, 28, 5, 43, 3, 23, 74, 49, 66, 20, 69, 27, 14, 59, 82, 1, 12, 90
